Great record! I always love Bill McHenry and everyone here is completely killing. Eric Revis is truly great and it thrills me to hear (at least what I perceive as) some non jazz influences on some of these bass lines. Maybe a little Mick Karn in there on Baby Renfro? ejnachtrab

This album is terrific fun. Terrific grooves, melodies and counter melodies from start to finish. Add to that the big band-like dynamics, the odd power chord and a little bit of wig-out skronk. It doesn't re-invent the (jazz-rock) wheel but I don't always need that. You can have a bit of fun and still make great music! jazzrob

I was brought here after listening to a live performance of Makaya's on you tube. I instantly loved the song Holy Lands so much that I had to see if the album version was the same rendition as the live one. Then I listened to the whole album! Universal Beings is a just a groove... It's a mix of traditional and something new, very nice. pandr1900
